Mrs. Karen Sue McCoart, age 87, of Murray, Kentucky, passed away on Thursday, June 13, 2024, at the Anna Mae Owen Residential Hospice House, Murray, Kentucky, after battling ALS (Lou Gehrig Disease).
Sue was born June, 27, 1936, in Van Lear, Kentucky to the late Austin Waldron and Pearl (Young) Waldron Welch. In addition to her parents, Mrs. McCoart was preceded in death by her first husband, Robert Joseph McCoart I, her second husband, James Herndon; one son, James Patrick McCoart, who passed away March 8, 1969; and by one son-in-law, Dr. William R. Wilson. Mrs. McCoart is survived by one daughter, Kim Wilson, Murray, Kentucky; two sons, Robert Joseph McCoart II, and wife Mary Beth, High Pointe, North Carolina, and William Thomas McCoart and wife Julie of Paducah, Kentucky; Seven grandchildren, Tyler McCoart, Parker McCoart and wife Vanessa, James McCoart and wife Racheal, and Cole McCoart all of Paducah, Kentucky, Addey Huish and husband AJ of Murray, Kentucky, Patrick Griffo of Washington, D.C. and Robert Joseph McCoart III and wife Danielle, of High Pointe, North Carolina. Two step grandchildren, Brad Wilson and wife Kelly of Murray, Kentucky; Richard and Amanda Wilson of Russellville, Kentucky; two great grandchildren, Katie Huish, of Murray, Kentucky, and Sylvia McCoart, of High Pointe, North Carolina; as well as three step great grandchildren Carter and Chandler Wilson, Murray, Kentucky and Aliza Wilson, Russellville, Kentucky.
Karen Sue graduated from Huntington High School, Huntington, West Virginia, in 1953, and kept in close touch with her classmates over the years. She was an involved member of St. Leo Catholic Church, Murray, Kentucky, during the early growth years of St. Leo Parish. In 1975, Sue successfully founded and enjoyed Yours, Mine, & Ours, upscale consignment shop where her customers became lifelong friends for 44 years. Also, she was particularly was fond of entertaining and baking for holidays and gatherings, which included her famous chocolate pie. Sue, affectionately called, Granny Sue, cherished time spent with her grandchildren, family, and dearest friends.
A memorial graveside service will be held on Saturday, June 29, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at the Murray City Cemetery. Father Josh McCarty will officiate, and burial will follow. Visitation will be held from 8:30 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 29, 2024, at the J.H. Churchill Funeral Home & Cremation Services.
