Katie Dawson Herndon

Mrs. Katie Dawson Herndon age 92, of Murray, Ky. died Saturday, June 16, 2012 at Mills Health and rehabilitation center in Mayfield, Ky.

Mrs. Herndon was born July 2, 1919 in Lafayette, Ky. to the late Roy and Roberta Carr Dawson. She was Valedictorian of Trigg Co. High School class of 1939, and was a graduate of Murray State College with a teaching certification. She was a CNA at Murray Calloway Co. Hospital, a sales clerk at Minnen's, and a homemaker. Mrs. Herndon was a member of the First Baptist church of Murray, and taught Sunday school for 50 years to pre-school, and elementary aged children. She was also a member of the DAR.

Survivors include two daughters, Nancy Whittaker and husband Dennis of Tuscaloosa, Ala., Elizabeth Herndon and husband Loyren American Horse of Murray, Ky., two sons, Woody Herndon and wife Donna of Murray, Ky., and Bobby Herndon and wife Jen of Newburg, Ind., and eight grandchildren, Melissa Graves, Christopher Herndon, Joshua Herndon, Jason Whittaker, Derek Whittaker, Ginger Whittaker Call, James Tyler Green, and Lorna Hayes. Also five Great grandchildren, Aime, Nathan, and Roger Graves, Jackson Whittaker, and Jaina Call.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Clarence Woodrow Herndon, sister, Grace Bridges, and grandson, Roger Herndon.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 21, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. at the J.H. Churchill Funeral Home; burial will follow in the Murray City Cemetery. Visitation will be held Wednesday, June 20, 2012 from 5-9 p.m. at the funeral home.
