Krit Stubblefield of the Cherry Corner community passed from this life Monday, April 17, 2017 at the Anna Mae Owens Hospice House ending a three-week battle with esophageal cancer. Age 58, he was born May 13, 1958 to Billy Joe Stubblefield and Jimmie Lee Gingles Stubblefield. Krit was a graduate of Calloway County High School and held a BS degree from Murray State University in Broadcast Journalism. Reared on the family's dairy farm, he was active in 4-H and FFA and continued to exhibit their Jersey cows under the banner of Stubblefield Jerseys for over 40 years. He was a member of Green Plain Church of Christ.
Krit began his career in the late 70s on the corner of 5th & Maple as a disk jockey, morning host, and eventually News Director of WNBS radio when the station was still located on the square. His last job was anchoring the Courthouse corner of 5th & Maple every Saturday morning where he operated the Stubblefield Farm booth at the Downtown Farmers Market. In the last years of his life, he was instrumental in organizing the Farmers Market Vendors Association and promoting the Downtown Farmers Market.
He moved to Louisville in 1982 to work as a farm broadcaster for the Ky Network where he hosted daily farm radio shows broadcast over an 80 station Ky Radio Network. He later worked in Frankfort as Principal Assistant to Agriculture Commissioner Butch Burnette. Upon returning to West Kentucky, he worked at radio and TV stations in Murray, Paducah, and Springfield and Dyersburg, Tennessee. Krit also had a long-time work relationship with Dwain Taylor Chevrolet.
Krit was preceded in death by his parents, his paternal grandparents Porter and Grace Stubblefield, and maternal grandparents Lee and Callie Gingles.
He is survived by his sister, Kathy Jo Stubblefield. Also surviving are an aunt, Marguritte Stubblefield; cousins Kenny Stubblefield, Van Stubblefield, Cindy Cleaver, Owen Garrison, Gracie Holland, Bobby Hall, J.W. Hall, Dorothy Cook all of Calloway County; Max Henry, Paris, TN; Reba Garrison King, Southaven, MS; Donna Hall Fair and Linda Henry Cole in Texas.
Visitation will be Thursday night from 5:00 to 9:00 at J.H. Churchill Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday at J. H. Churchill with Jonnie Hutchinson, Jim Stahler, and Carl Hardie presiding. Burial will follow at Hicks Cemetery.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Mark Stubblefield, Adam Stubblefield, Lucas Stubblefield, Tim Stark, Jay Stark, and Sam Henry.
Honorary pallbearers are Steve Brandon, Charles Palmer, Mark Paschall, Donny and Frankie Adams, Paul McDade, Bill & Sue Trimble, Jim Wurth, Butch Seargent, Martha Alls, and Deana Wright.
