Miss LaJean Wiggins, 89, passed away at Spring Creek Health Care Center in Murray, Kentucky on Friday, September 9, 2016. She was born in Graves County to the late Q. K. and Monta Etna Motheral Wiggins on January 8, 1927. She was lovingly raised by her father and stepmother, Ressie Stephenson Brooks Sims Wiggins.
Ms. Wiggins was a retired Academic Librarian. Upon completion of her Bachelor of Science Degree from Murray State University and Master of Science degree from the University of Illinois at Champagne/Urbana - she worked at Murray State University, Morehead State University and Woodford County Library. Her work allowed her to share her love of books, reading, and helping others. Upon retirement, she returned to Murray and continued her lifelong passion of working with students and was actively involved with the University Christian Student Center. She was a member of the University Church of Christ.
Surviving are devoted nieces and nephews: Greta (William Sherrill) Brooks Gargus, Ann Brooks, Bob (Ruth) Maas, Jimmy Wiggins, Billy (Helen) Redden, Bobbie Jean (John) Sims, and Ouida Murphy. She is also survived by many loving great nieces and nephews as well as a caring circle of friends and neighbors.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters: Christine (Lee) Redden, Marguerite (W. H.) Brooks, Ruth (Cec) Mass; one brother: Coy (Mildred) Wiggins; one step sister, Anice (Fred) Lawrence; stepbrothers: Alan (Louise) Brooks, W.H. (Marguerite) Brooks; two nephews: Hamp Wiggins Brooks, Till Maas; and one niece: Lorena Stark.
A celebration of her lifelong love of faith, family and friends will be held at the University Church of Christ on Sunday, September 18, 2016 at 3:30. Charley Bazzell, Danny Claiborne, Wes Claiborne and Hampton Brooks will officiate. Remembrances in her honor may be sent to the University Christian Student Center, 1403 Olive Blvd Murray, KY 42071.
