Mr. Lanny Turner, age 73, of Murray, Kentucky, passed away Monday, November 25, 2024, at the Murray-Calloway County Hospital in Murray, Kentucky.
He was born on May 29, 1951, in Murray, Kentucky to the late Clyde Turner and Louise (Turner) Turner. He lived in Golden Pond, Kentucky until 1964 when his family moved to Murray. In high school he had various jobs at Oaks Country Club and worked at Ashland Five Points Gas Station. He graduated from Calloway County High School and served a two-year tour of duty in the Vietnam War Era with the United States Army. Upon returning home he and Gail Furches married on April 20, 1973. They were married for 51 years. Lanny farmed for several years with his father-in-law, Thurston Furches. He also worked with his late brother Terry in the electrical business. Lanny enjoyed any activity outside. Riding motorcycles, water skiing, growing tobacco, raising a garden, and woodworking. He made butchers blocks and walking canes. He and Gail vacationed in Florida over the years. As well as one special trip to Bennington, Vermont to visit an Army friend.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Terry Turner; one nephew, Chip Turner; one aunt, Vivian Polland; as well as one brother-in-law, Steve Cathey.
Survivors include his wife, Gail (Furches) Turner of Murray, Kentucky; one brother, Larry Turner and wife Brenda of Murray, Kentucky; two sisters-in-law, Beverly Turner and Suzie Cathey both of Murray, Kentucky; one brother-in-law, Tripp Furches and wife Sharon of Murray, Kentucky; as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A graveside service will be held at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, November 30, 2024, at the Furches-Turner Family Cemetery, 1133 Furches Trail, Murray, Kentucky 42071. Bro. Kim Reeder will officiate. Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m., Saturday, November 30, 2024, at the J.H. Churchill Funeral Home & Cremation Services.
