Mr. Lawrence Samuel Philpot, 79, of Murray, died Sunday, September 11, 2011 at the Murray Calloway Co. Hospital.
He was born April 16, 1932 in Corbin, Ky. During the Korean War he served aboard the USS Firedrake ammunition ship in the U.S. Navy. He attended Berea College and graduated from the University of Kentucky.
While employed by TVA Land Between the Lakes as an agriculturist and wildlife specialist, he brought the first herds of buffalo to LBL.
He enjoyed playing golf and UK Basketball, farming and traveling.
Lawrence was preceded in death by his parents, Gilbert G. Philpot and Zella Beatrice Barton Philpot, one sister, Linda Loudermelt; two brothers, Lenville Lee Philpot, and George Roscoe Philpot.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Lou Ann Philpot; one son, Dr. Timothy Alan Philpot and wife, Ginger, Rolla Missouri, two grandchildren, Dr. Madeline Annabelle Philpot, Madison, Wisconsin, and Lawrence Samuel (Larkin) Philpot II, Toronto, Canada.
Three sisters, Martha Johnson, Keavy, Ky., Phyllis Wilson, Corbin, Ky. and Dora Litteral, Keavy, Ky. One brother L.T. Philpot, Crab Orchard, Ky., several nieces and nephews. ,
Funeral service will be held Saturday, September 17, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. at the J.H. Churchill Funeral Home, Rev. Bill Lickliter will officiate, and burial will follow in the Murray City Cemetery with Military honors. Visitation will be held Saturday, September 17, 2011 from 11 a.m. till 1 p.m. at the funeral home.
