Mr. Lilburn "Blackie" Shemwell age 88 of Murray, Ky., died Monday, February 13, 2012 at his home.
Mr. Shemwell was born Dec. 16, 1923 in Sharon Grove, Ky. to the late Samuel and Germie Edwards Shemwell. He was a retired supervisor with Ryan Milk/Dean Foods with 25 years of service. He was a member of the Memorial Baptist Church, and the Sanctuary Sunday school class. He was an Army Veteran of WWII, a member of the American Legion, and was also a mason with the Murray Masonic Lodge 105 F&AM.
Survivors include his wife, Blanche Allen Shemwell of Murray, Ky., they married March 13, 1943 in Indianapolis, Ind., two sons, David Shemwell and wife Lyn of Columbus, Ga., Ronald Shemwell and wife Terese of Hazel, Ky., four grandchildren, Terri Mobbs and husband Shawn of Tuscaloosa, Ala., Christina Burnett and husband Anthony of Atlanta, Ga., Tiffany Clayton and husband Aaron of Murray, Ky., and Worth Carraway Shemwell of Hazel, Ky., also five great grandchildren, Courtney, Ryan, and Cody Mobbs all of Tuscaloosa, Ala., and Ansley and Samuel Burnett both of Atlanta, Ga.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Evelyn Patrick, and brother, J.P. Shemwell.
Funeral service will be held Friday, February 17, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at the J.H. Churchill Funeral Home, Rev. Martin Severns will officiate, and burial will follow in the Murray City Cemetery. Visitation will be held Thursday, February 16, 2012 from 5-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
