Mr. Marvin Cook Harris, age 93, of Murray, Kentucky, died Thursday, March 01, 2018 at the Murray Calloway County Hospital.
Mr. Harris was born in Murray, Kentucky on April 15, 1924 to the late Alfred and Altie Cook Harris. Mr. Harris retired as the Calloway County Clerk after serving sixteen years. Before being elected as the Calloway County Clerk Mr. Harris was a salesman with the Murray Wholesale Grocery. He was a veteran of WWII, serving in the 17th Airborne Division of the U.S. Army and a member of the First Baptist Church and the Solomon Sunday School Class. Mr. Harris was involved in several clubs, organizations and boards, including the Lions Club, Need Line, Watch Center, City Council, Oaks Country Club, and had served as the past President of the Kentucky Clerks Association.
In addition to his parents Mr. Harris was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy Nell (Trevathan) Harris, who died in 2008; one sister, Dot Danner; and by one brother, J.W. Harris.
He is survived by two daughters, Linda Kay Gilmore and husband Larry of Gallatin, Tennessee and Rita Carol Morgan and husband Robert of Paducah, Kentucky; four grandchildren, Shannon Stivers, Adam Stroud, Charis Gilmore Brown, and Josh Gilmore; as well as thirteen great grandchildren, Aiden Gilmore, Hayes, Gilmore, Hallie Grace Gilmore, Carson Gholson, Sidney Stivers, Hudson Stivers, Harper Stivers, A.J. Stivers, Marcell Stivers, Remi Stivers, Feven Brown, Liam Brown and Nate Brown.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, March 5, 2018 in the Chapel of the J.H. Churchill Funeral Home. Dr. Larry Gilmore and Dr. Keith Inman will officiate with burial to follow in the Murray Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held on Monday, March 5, 2018 from 11:00 a.m. until funeral hour at the J.H. Churchill Funeral Home.
