Mary Florence Fridy

Mrs. Mary Florence Fridy, 91, of Murray, Kentucky died at her home on Friday, September 19, 2014 at 1:25 a.m. She was the daughter of the late Galen Miller Thurman Sr., and the late Agnes Fowell Thurman of Murray, Kentucky.

Mrs. Fridy was born on August 20, 1923 in Pottertown, Kentucky and grew up in Brandon's Mill, Kentucky now known as Blood River. Mrs. Fridy graduated from The University of Kentucky with a degree in Home Economics in 1947. She worked as a Home Demonstration Agent in Crittenden County, Kentucky and later moved to Murray where she worked several years as the dietitian at the Murray Calloway Hospital. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Murray.

In addition to her parents Mrs. Fridy was preceded in death by her husband Mr. Joe Fridy who died on July 23, 2010; they married on June 25, 1949 in Marion, Kentucky; and by one brother, Galen Miller Thurman, Jr.
Survivors include one daughter Sarah Jane Fridy of Whittier, North Carolina; one son, Joe Bill Fridy and his wife Beverly of Puryear, Tennessee; three grandchildren, Gail Gray and husband Phil of Memphis, Tennessee, Tommy Fridy of Memphis, Tennessee and Grant Fridy of Puryear, Tennessee; one great grandchild, William Gray of Memphis, Tennessee; one sister, Bess Kerlick of Murray, Kentucky; two brothers, Billy Payne Thurman and wife Lanette and Joe Thomas Thurman and wife Nancy all of Murray, Kentucky; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, September 21, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at the J.H. Churchill Funeral Home with Rev. Jim Stahler officiating. Burial will follow in the Murray City Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 21, 2014 from 10:00 a.m. until service hour (2:00 p.m.) at the funeral home.
