Mrs. Mary Jo Erwin Swearengin age 87, of Murray, Kentucky, died Monday, February 15, 2016 at the Murray Calloway County Hospital.
She was retired from TVA after thirty-four years of service. A member of the South Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church, she enjoyed music and loved to sing. She always enjoyed and never missed birthdays, holidays, and other celebrations with her family.
She was born July 30, 1928 in Calloway County, Kentucky to the late Joseph Emmett and Mary Outland Erwin. In addition to her parents she is also preceded in death by her husband Loyd Swearengin; five sisters, Ellen Orr, Lucille Cooper, Lurene Cooper, Leola Erwin, and Clara Key; two brothers, James Euel Erwin, and Ordest Houston Erwin; two nieces: Maxine Burkeen and Mary Christi Cooper; one nephew Jerry Houston Key.
She is survived by six nieces, Carolyn E. Parks of Hazel, Kentucky Linda E. Workman and husband Eddie of Murray, Kentucky, Jan C. Taylor and husband Ron of Starkville, Mississippi, Sheila E. James and husband George of Hazel, Kentucky, Joanne E. Mahan and husband James of Hazel, Kentucky, and Sarah C. Kubicki and husband Michael of Tinley Park, Illinios; three nephews, Gary B. Cooper and wife Geneva of Murray, Kentucky, James Dale Erwin of Hazel, Kentucky, and L. Dan Key and wife Claire of Paducah, Kentucky; ten great nieces, Marilyn B. Vailes, Karen B. Guthrie, Rhonda B. McGinnis, Kim E. Phillips, Lisa W. McDougal, Tammy M. McDaniel, Emily M. Miller, Elizabeth K Kaegi, Jana Kubicki, and Megan P. Ottway; twelve great nephews, David Cooper, Kenny Erwin, Kerry Erwin, Michael Parks, Dustin Parks, Alan Rietze, Daniel Key, Charles Key, Greg Workman, Les James, Curtis James, and Andrew Kubicki; thirty great-great nieces and nephews; eleven great-great-great nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 pm Saturday, February 20, 2016 at the South Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church. Bro. Robert Baker and Bro Glenn Hill will officiate with burial to follow in the South Pleasant Grove Church Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5:00 – 8:00 pm Friday, February 19, 2016 at the J.H. Churchill Funeral Home.
