Mrs. Merl Maxine Starks, age 86, of Hazel, Kentucky, died Wednesday, April 20, 2016 at Spring Creek Health Care in Murray.
Mrs. Starks was born in Stewart County, Tennessee on September 25, 1929 to the late Mack Monroe Sykes and Maggie Cecil Marie (Quinn) Sykes. Mrs. Starks was a homemaker and a member of the Hazel Church of Christ. She was also a member of the AM-Vets Auxiliary, VFW Auxiliary and the American Legion.
In addition to her parents Mrs. Starks was preceded in death by her husband, Howell T. "Jack" Starks; one son, Robert Wynn Starks; and by four brothers, Buddy Sykes, Elroy Sykes, James Sykes and Byron Sykes; and one son-in-law, Mike Paschall.
Mrs. Starks is survived by two daughters, Georgia Ann Paschall of Murray, Kentucky; Renaye Lynn Hendon and husband L.J. of Murray, Kentucky; six sons, James Howell Starks (Sissy) of Hazel, Kentucky, Eddy Starks and wife Penny of Buchanan, Tennessee, Roger Starks of Hazel, Kentucky, Lee Starks of Murray, Kentucky, Terry Starks of Murray, Kentucky and Jerry Starks (Brenda) of Murray, Kentucky; one sister, Joan Sykes Capo of Murray, Kentucky; as well as seven grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 23, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at the J.H. Churchill Funeral Home with Rev. Kerry Lambert and John Dale officiating. Burial will follow in the Green Plain Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday, April 22, 2016 from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
