1stSGT(ret.) Michael Robert May, age 74, of Almo, Kentucky, died on Tuesday, May 12, 2020, at the Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee.
Mike was born on December 18, 1945, in Rock Island, Illinois to the late John Emmanuel May and Arvada (Shanks) Reddick. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by one daughter, Karen Elizabeth May.
He was a highly decorated retired first sergeant and veteran of the United States Army who served in the Vietnam War; He received many commendations including the Order of Saint Barbara, was the Distinguished NCO of the Quarter twice at Fort Sill, Oklahoma as well as the Bronze Star. After retiring from the Army Mike was employed by and later retired from Dowell Schlumberger Oil Field Service as a field engineer. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and spent the last several years working for and helping at Palmer Farms for Tim and Cassidy Palmer. Mike was a member of the Coldwater United Methodist Church and served as a trustee.
Survivors include his wife, Eugenia "Genie" (Jablonski) May of Almo, Kentucky; to whom he married on February 3, 1969, in Lawton, Oklahoma; one daughter, Kimberly Ann May of Bolivar, Missouri; one sister, Florence Heavener and husband Jim of Gaines, Michigan; one brother, Clayton Virgil Reddick and wife Cindy of Centerton Arkansas; as well as three grandchildren, Andria Potter of Bolivar, Missouri, Alicia Potter of St. Louis, Missouri, and Megan May of Tempe, Arizona.
Memorial graveside services will be held on Sunday, May 24, 2020, at 2:00 p.m., at the Cain Cemetery. Rev. Tim Palmer will officiate and the VFW Post # 6291 will provide military honors.
