Mildred M. (Micki) Chapman, age 92, of Murray, Kentucky and formerly of Henderson, Kentucky, died on Monday, January 14, 2019 at Spring Creek Healthcare. Born April 5, 1926, in Henderson, she was the daughter of the late Hattie and Raymond Chapman. Survivors include several cousins and special friends.
She was a member of Central Baptist Church in Melbourne, Florida and a former Choir Director there.
After receiving her degree in Music Education from Murray State University, she taught band and vocal music for 16 years in Mississippi, Florida, and Kentucky. Changing vocations, she worked four years as youth and Music Supervisor for the Lexington, Ky City Recreation Department, followed by two years as Director of Recreation for the city of Melbourne, Florida.
She obtained her MS and EDS Graduate Degrees in counseling and Guidance, from Indiana University, and served twenty-three years as a school counselor in the Michigan City, Indiana School System. She retired in 1986 and moved back to the Kentucky Lake and Murray area.
Professional organizations to which she belonged were: Indiana Retired Teachers Association; National Band Directors Association; National Guidance and Counselors Association; M.S.U. and I.V. Alumni Associations; M.S.U. Heritage Club; Sigma Alpha Iota; and Alpha Sigma Alpha, of which she was a Charter member of. She was also an avid fisherwoman; loved Boating; gardening; and cooking; (which she liked to share with her friends). She was a member of two Bridge clubs.
Services will be held at the J.H. Churchill Funeral Home at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 20, 2019 with Rev. Jim Stahler officiating. Burial will follow in the Fernwood Cemetery in Henderson, Kentucky on Tuesday, January 22, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 20, 2019 prior to the funeral service from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the J.H. Churchill Funeral Home.
