Mildred Slinker Robertson Newton, 93 years old, of Murray, KY went to be with the Lord on November 29, 2024. She was born in Greensburg, Kentucky to Reverend R.A. and Vallie Slinker.
She was preceded in death by her first husband of 37 years, Gus Robertson, Jr., second husband of 24 years, Leet Newton, daughter, Becky Jo Jones and son-in-law, Richard Jones, stepdaughter, Leeta Ann Newton, and step grandson, Josh White.
Survivors include a sister-in-law, Clara Head, stepson Mitch (Heidi) Newton, grandsons, David Jones, Gus Jones (Michelle), step grandchildren Hillory Carson, Annie Newton, and Ethan White, two great-grandchildren, Tracer Jones and Layla Jones, step great-grandson, Bobby Johnson, and several nephews, nieces, and cousins. Mildred especially loved and enjoyed every moment her grandsons, daughter-in-law, and great-grandchildren spent with and cared for her.
Mildred retired from the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service (ASCS) Murray office after 35 years of service. She served on the Campbellsville University Board of Trustees for over 20 years. As an active member of First Baptist Church Murray, she served on numerous committees and as a Trustee. She was a charter member of the Woman’s Club Sigma Department and a member of the Zeta Department. She and her husband, Gus, were charter members of the Oaks Country Club.
Mildred greeted everyone with her sweet smile and gracious personality. She never met a stranger and was known to welcome friends, family, and guests into her home. She is remembered for her years serving in the FBC Murray college student ministry. The Robertson home was open to college students anytime, but especially at Christmas to decorate the tree while celebrating the season. It became a home for those who needed a place to gather or have a bed for the weekend, semester, or longer periods. Today, there are multitudes of former students who fondly remember Mildred for her love of the Lord, servant heart, and welcoming hospitality to all she encountered.
