Mr. Murel "Sonny" Crittendon, age 83 of Murray, Kentucky, died Friday, February 24, 2017 at the Anna Mae Owen Hospice House.
Mr. Crittendon was born June 11, 1933 in Graves County, Kentucky, to the late Elvie Alonzo Crittendon and Nettie Evans Crittendon. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son in law, Phil McCuiston; two sisters, Laverne Crittendon, and Christine Mathis; two brothers, Earl D. Crittendon, and Bobby Crittendon.
Mr. Crittendon was the former owner and operator of the Tri-City grocery, Lynn Grove Store, and the Bell City Grocery. He also farmed, and was retired from Murray State University as a master plumber for 28 years. Mr. Crittendon was a member of the Sedalia Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Waters Crittendon of Murray, Kentucky, they married September 29, 1952 in Corinth, Mississippi; two daughters, Deborah Balash and husband Thomas of Murray, Kentucky, and Rita McCuiston of Murray, Kentucky; two brothers, Billy Usher Crittendon and wife Amanda of Benton, Kentucky, and Hollis Gene Crittendon and wife Larue of Mayfield, Kentucky; seven grandchildren, Joe Lyons and wife Libby of St. Charles, Missouri, Missy Gargus and husband Wayne of Owensboro, Kentucky, Evan Lyons and wife Vanessa of Murray, Kentucky, Jason McCuiston and wife Rachel of Murray, Kentucky, Brian McCuiston and wife Katie of Murray, Kentucky, Danny McCuiston and wife Shara of Murray, Kentucky, and Tricia Stroup and husband David of Murray, Kentucky; thirteen great grandchildren, Emma and Mary Lyons of St. Charles, Missouri, Michelle, Gavin, and Garrett Gargus all of Ownesboro, Kentucky, Mariah, Thomas, and Laya Lyons all of Murray, Kentucky, Parker and Emery McCuiston of Murray, Kentucky, Alexa, Ellen, and Dean Stroup all of Murray, Kentucky.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m., Monday, February 27, 2017 at the J.H. Churchill Funeral Home. Bro. Bobby Crittendon will officiate, and burial will follow in the Burnett's Chapel Cemetery. Visitation will be held Monday, February 27, 2017 from 10 a.m. till 2 p.m., at the J.H. Churchill Funeral Home.
