Neta Gale Smotherman

Mrs. Neta Gale Smotherman, age 73 of Hazel, Kentucky died on Monday, January 5, 2015 at the Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston, Missouri.

Mrs. Smotherman was born in Calloway County Kentucky on May 15, 1941 to the late J.I. Patton and Louise (Paschall) Patton. Mrs. Smotherman retired from the New Madrid County, R1 High School in New Madrid, Missouri as a former teacher and guidance counselor. She was a member of the Sinking Spring Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents Mrs. Smotherman was preceded in death by her husband, James Mac Smotherman, who died on May 17, 2013.

Mrs. Smotherman is survived by her daughter, Jennifer Schaffer of New Madrid, Missouri; two grandchildren, Doug Schaffer of Springfield, Missouri and Conner Schaffer of Wright City, Missouri; as well as several cousins.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 8, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. at the J.H. Churchill Funeral Home with Bro. Carl Butler officiating. Burial will follow in the South Pleasant Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 8, 2015 from 10:00 a.m. until funeral hour (1:00 p.m.) at the funeral home.
