Norman O'Neal Lane, a loving, faithful and committed husband, father, and grandfather died Sunday, March 2nd.
"Stormin" Norman was born Feb. 2nd, 1934 in Dover, TN to Raymond and Sarah Lane.
He graduated from Stewart County High School in 1952 and entered the Air Force one year later. After serving for four years Norman enrolled at Murray State University where he majored in physical education with a minor in history, before receiving a Masters degree in education.
Norman then gave 27 years to the University in a range of positions, from Dean of Students to Director of Grants Development.
After retiring from MSU, Norman enjoyed his time as a dispatcher for Taylor Motors, driving busses all across the country.
Later in life Norman committed himself to genealogy, unearthing a world of photos, stories and lineage for his children to share.
His life was full of beautiful friendships, most of all with the love of his life, Carol Lane.
Norman was also a charter member at Oaks Country Club, where he enjoyed playing with his dearest friends, Jim Johnson, Jack Benton, Chet Wildey, and AR Hatcher, as well as besting his sons and grandchildren at nearly every turn.
He was of Baptist faith and had a very personal relationship with the Lord, saying, "In nature I feel closest to God, when the sun is shining and the grass is a vivid green."
Norman is survived by his wife, Carol Lane; three sons, Denny (Diana), Ray (Amy) and Tim Lane (Vicky); two stepchildren, Bruce Thurmond (Jill) and Kendra Percarpio (Tom); twelve grandchildren, Sarah Lane Campbell (Clayton), Emily Lane Rockne (Gary), Andrew, Alex and Boone Lane, Blair Lane Brockman (Tyler), Stephanie Lane Tompkins (Jabe) and Michael Lane, Lucas and Noah Thurmond, Carrington and Will Percarpio; and two great grandchildren, Maisie and Gwyneth Rockne.
Norman always had a special place in his heart for his extended family of eighteen cousins in Dover, TN.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 6, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at the J.H. Churchill Funeral Home with John Dale officiating. Burial will follow in the Murray City Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 5, 2014 from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
