Mr. Otis Jefferson Elkins

Mr. Otis Jefferson Elkins, age 98, of Murray, Kentucky passed away on Monday, May 18, 2026, at the Murray-Calloway County Hospital in Murray, Kentucky.

Mr. Elkins was born in Calloway County, Kentucky on October 17, 1927, to the late Thomas “Jack” Elkins and Otie Mae (Morgan) Elkins. Otis worked at the Tappan Company for 33 years. After the plant in Murray closed, he went on to become a professional painter. He was a self-taught fiddler and played in several bands. Mr. Elkins was a member of the Sugar Creek Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Elkins was preceded in death by one sister, Lona Mae Williams; as well as two brothers, Lestel Elkins and Carlos Elkins.

Mr. Elkins is survived by his loving wife of 75 years, Bobbie Sue (Poyner) Elkins of Murray, Kentucky; four nieces, Judy Overbey, Deborah Grogan, Carla Elkins, and Dorinda Craig all of Murray, Kentucky; two nephews, Tommy Elkins and Randall Starks, both of Murray, Kentucky. Also surviving are several great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces, great-great-nephews, great-great-great nieces, and great-great-great nephews, as well as special friends who were like family, Mike and Linda Wyatt.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, May 21, 2026, at the J.H. Churchill Funeral Home & Cremation Services with John Dale and Bro. Kerry Lambert officiating. Burial will follow in the Murray Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m., Thursday, May 21, 2026, at the J.H. Churchill Funeral Home & Cremation Services.
