Peggy Ann Newsome

May 25, 1940 — January 31, 2024

Murray

Mrs. Peggy Ann Lamb Newsome, age 83, of Murray, Kentucky, passed away Wednesday, January 31, 2024, at the Murray Calloway County Hospital.

Mrs. Newsome was born on May 25, 1940, in Cottage Grove, Tennessee, to the late Lois Dennis Lamb and Mary Lou West Lamb. She graduated from Cottage Grove High School where she played basketball and served as the Cottage Grove Lady Cardinals captain in 1958; as well as being voted the most athletic and the wittiest. On May 15, 1958, she eloped with her sailor sweetheart Mr. Kenneth B. Newsome in Corinth, Mississippi. During Ken’s career, she traveled all over the United States and to Japan with him. However, no matter where she was in the world, she always made sure to create a home for her family. Peggy had many positions over the years including working for the Henry County Election Commissions Office and a Teacher’s Aide in Fallon, Nevada. She and Mr. Newsome eventually moved back to Western Kentucky. She was happy to be back home, closer to her parents, brothers, sisters, nieces, and nephews who she loved dearly. She went on to retire from Tappan to care for Ken and Brittany. After Mr. Newsome’s death, she enjoyed going on cruises with friends, playing cards with her church friends, and visiting with her class of 58’ high school friends.

In addition to her parents, she was proceeded in death by her husband, Kenneth Brooks Newsome; three sisters, Christell Lamb, Linda Sue Nance Orawczyk, and Mary Lois Sparks; four brothers, Dennis Lamb, Clayton Lamb, Staton Lamb, and Billy Bert Lamb.

Survivors include two daughters, Jan Newsome of Murray, Kentucky and Lori Rogers and husband Mark of Farmington, Kentucky; one granddaughter, Brittiany Adams of Nashville, Tennessee.
