Mrs. Phayree Cook, age 92, of Edna, Texas, formerly of Murray, Kentucky, died on Monday, August 23, 2021.
Mrs. Cook was born in Oktibbeha County, Mississippi on April 25, 1929, to the late Grady Estell Vaughan and Jeffie Olene (Seawright) Vaughan. Mrs. Cook retired from Murray State University as a graduate coordinator and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Murray.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Cook was preceded in death by her husband, Sammie F. Cook; and one daughter, Gloria Dale Johnson.
Mrs. Cook is survived by one daughter, Olivia Anne Mixon and husband John T. of Edna, Texas; one son, Grady Franklin Cook of Charleston, South Carolina; son-in-law, Norman Johnson of Slaughters, Kentucky; as well as five grandchildren, Andrew Dale Johnson, Bryan Franklin Johnson, John T. Mixon, III, Samuel Cook Mixon, Anna Phayree Mixon.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, August 31, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. at the J.H. Churchill Funeral Home and Cremation Services. Bro. Joe Johnson will officiate, and burial will follow in the Murray Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held prior to the funeral service on Tuesday, August 31, 2021, from 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. at the J.H. Churchill Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
