Quava Smith Honchul, age 93, of Murray, Kentucky, died Tuesday, February 13, 2018 at Hickory Woods in Murray, Kentucky. She was born on December 15, 1924 in Calloway County, Kentucky to the late M.D. Clark and Tempest (Phillips) Clark. She was a retired librarian at Murray State University. She was a graduate of Murray Training School, then earned a bachelor's degree from Murray State University. She taught in three high schools in Illinois. She later received a master's degree from George Peabody College in Nashville, Tennessee. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Murray.
In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her first husband, Eugene H. Smith (1965), her second husband Lt. Col. Delbert Honchul (2017), to whom she had been married 47 years; and by two brothers, Fred Clark and Doris Clark. She is survived by three sons, Dr. Phil Kim Smith of Huntsville, AL, Ray Smith and (fiancé Mary Barrett) of Murray, KY and Dr. Roger Smith (wife Linda) of Yorktown, IN; and three grandchildren, Dr. Benjamin Smith, Daniel Smith, Eleonora Smith; surviving step-children are Lt. Col. Dean Honchul (Rosalind) of Harker Heights, TX, Diana Lossner (Steve) of Marietta GA, Donna O'Neal (Bill Johns) of Arroyo Grande, CA, Delaine Cook (Tim) of Murray, KY, Delores Baker (Rod) of Maysville, KY and Col. David Honchul (Tamra) of Severn, MD; and 18 step-grandchildren; she is also survived by a brother, Malcolm Pat Clark (and wife Joan) of Carrollton, VA.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, February 17, 2018 at the J.H. Churchill Funeral Home. Rev. Jim Stahler will officiate, and burial will follow in the Murray City Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m., Friday, February 16, 2018 at the J.H. Churchill Funeral Home.
