Robert "Buddy" Buckingham

Mr. Robert "Buddy" Buckingham, age 83, of Murray, Kentucky, died Tuesday, June 13, 2017, at the Spring Creek Health Care in Murray, Kentucky. He was born on October 12, 1933 in Paris, Tennessee, to the late Jackson Ray Buckingham and Mary Louise Cowan Buckingham.
He had been a business owner, a state Legislator, and a community and state leader. A graduate of Murray High School and Murray State University, Buddy co-owned and operated Buckingham Ray Ltd., a men's and ladies' clothing store, for 22 years. He also served as a member of the Kentucky House of Representatives for three terms, director of Regional Economic Development at Murray State University for five years, volunteer Director of the Murray-Calloway County Economic Development Corporation for 16 years, and a member of the Kentucky Enterprise Zone authority for eight years after having been appointed by the Governor. Buddy was also employed for nine years earlier in his career as a manufacturing engineer at the Tappan company.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Sue Buckingham, one son, Mark Buckingham, and his sister, Margaret Polly.
He is survived one son, David Buckingham and wife Dianne; two grandsons, Nicholas Buckingham and wife Kelly and Tyler Buckingham; a great grandson, Brody Buckingham; a daughter-in-law, Renee Buckingham, Widow of Mark Buckingham; three Nieces Shelia Grogan and husband Jerry, Ada Sue Selwitz and husband Steve, and Amy Carter and husband Garry; his great aunt, Minnie Bess Williams; and several cousins.
Funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m., Friday, June 16, 2017 at the J.H. Churchill Funeral Home. John Dale will officiate, and burial will follow in the Murray City Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:30 p.m. till 8:00 p.m., Thursday, June 15, 2017 at the J.H. Churchill Funeral Home.
