Dr. Robert L. Carlton, age 91, died Saturday, March 13, 2010 at Willow Brook Christian Home in Columbus, Ohio. Dr. Carlton born in Murray, KY on June 1, 1918 to the late Albert B. Carlton and Ophelia Hughes Carlton. A graduate of Murray State University (1948, BA) and Then Ohio State University (1950, MA; 1953, Ph.D.). A retired licensed clinical psychologist , he was employed by Children’s Mental Health Center in Columbus, Ohio, where he served as a staff psychologist (1952-55), chief psychologist (1955-63), and Associate Director (1963-82). He maintained a private practice during this period and for several years following his retirement. He also served as a Clinical Assistant Professor with the Department of Psychology (1962-71) at The Ohio State University. He was a WWII USAF pilot (1942 – 46, PTO), and retired from the US Air Force Reserve in 1978 with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.
Dr. Carlton was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, James A. Carlton and one grandson, Ryan Keith Carlton.
He is survived by his wife Frances Suiter Carlton, two sons, Glenn Carlton and wife Sharon, and Keith Carlton and wife Melanie, one brother, Edward Carlton and wife Maryanne, also surviving are four grandchildren, Chad, Lisa Robert and Leah Carlton, three great grandchildren, Todd, Ryan, and Kelsey Carlton, and three step grandchildren, Jennifer Horman, David and Douglas Baer, as well as several nieces and nephews survive.
Graveside services with military rites will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, March 20, 2010 at Murray Memorial Gardens Chapel with John Dale officiating. Burial to follow
