Mr. Robert Louis Hitzler, age 84, of Murray, Kentucky, died Thursday, August 25, 2016 at the Murray Calloway County Hospital.
Mr. Hitzler was born on December 28, 1931 in Chicago, Illinois to the late William J. Hitzler and Dorothy Gerke Hitzler.
Bob was a devoted Christian husband, who loved his family. He was a retired electrical engineer and in retirement he enjoyed traveling, playing Scrabble and Rook with his family. Mr. Hitzler volunteered and served his country nobly in the Army in the Korean War. He received a Purple Heart for being wounded in the act of duty. He was a proud and active member of the Glendale Road Church of Christ. He was a fan of cars, trains and music. He was generous, caring and selfless and will be truly missed.
In addition to his parents Mr. Hitzler was preceded in death by his first wife, Alice Kelly Hitzler; one brother, William J. Hitzler, Jr.; and by one sister, Jean Johnson.
Mr. Hitzler is survived by his wife, Lou McGary Hitzler of Murray, Kentucky; two daughters, Vicki Ragsdale and husband Jim of Murray, Kentucky and Karen McCuiston and husband Kent of Murray, Kentucky; one sister, Shirley Klein of Chicago, Illinois; one brother, John T. Hitzler of San Clemente, California; one grandchild, Frances Smith and husband Jack of Murray, Kentucky; as well as two great grandchildren, Lydia Smith and Luke Smith of Murray, Kentucky.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, August 28, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at the J.H. Churchill Funeral Home with Steven Hunter officiating. Burial will follow in the Murray City Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 28, 2016 from 11:00 a.m. until service hour (2:00 p.m.) at the J.H. Churchill Funeral Home.
