Mr. Robert E. Overby, age 82, of Murray, Kentucky, died on Wednesday, June 24, 2020, at the Ray and Kay Eckstein Hospice Care Center at Mercy Health in Paducah, Kentucky.
Mr. Overby was born on April 27, 1938, in Benton, Kentucky to the late Curtis Overby and Kathleen Snow Overby. He was of the Church of Christ Faith. Mr. Overby had a lifelong passion for motorcycles. He started out selling and repairing Cushman Scooters in the 1950's at Eaton's in Mayfield, Kentucky. In 1966 he became a regional service rep for American Honda Corporation, servicing as many as five states until 1976 when he bought the local Honda dealership. He owned and operated Overby Honda in Murray, Kentucky from 1976 until 1988. He also started a motorcycle audio business named, "Overby's Two Wheel Sound", in the 1980's traveling to bike rally's nation wide and also operating locally. He continued to operate this business until his death, choosing not to retire.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister and three brothers.
Survivors include his wife, Reda (Brandon) Overby of Murray, Kentucky; to whom he married on February 5, 1959, in Calloway County, Kentucky; one daughter, Tammy Smith and husband Clay of Kirksey, Kentucky; two sons, Keith Overby of Murray, Kentucky and Darrell Overby and wife Marla of Murray, Kentucky; two sisters, Joanne Cavitt and husband Perry of Murray, Kentucky and Camilla Tarry and husband Jerry of Modesto, California; two grandchildren, Brittany Perkins of Murray, Kentucky and Ben Overby of Murray, Kentucky; as well as two great-grandchildren, Cammie Arnett of Murray, Kentucky and Cole Arnett of Murray, Kentucky.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m., on Friday, June 26, 2020, at the J.H. Churchill Funeral Home & Cremation Services. Additional visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. – 10:30 a.m., on Saturday, June 27, 2020, at the J.H. Churchill Funeral Home & Cremation Services. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Saturday, June 27, 2020, at the Murray City Cemetery with John Dale and Rev. Jim Stahler officiating.
