Mr. Robert "Jack" Wagar, age 85, of Murray, Kentucky, died at Spring Creek Healthcare on Thursday, January 31, 2019. Mr Wagar was born on August 28, 1933 in Paducah, Kentucky to the late Murl Frank Wagar and Sara Clark Wolfe. He received degrees in chemistry and biology from Murray State University, and in 1951 he became a member of I.B.E.W. Local Union 816 in Paducah where he served his apprenticeship as an electrician and has remained a member for 68 years. He also worked in operations at Calvert City for Air Reduction and Air Products and is retired from Murray City Schools as Maintenance Supervisor. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Murray, and as member of First Baptist Church he has served as deacon, assistant treasurer, trustee, boys' Sunday School teacher and a member of various committees.
In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by a daughter, Cindy Wagar Hill; step-father, Russell Wolfe; and his brother and sister-in-law, Frank and Shirley Wagar.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Ann Wagar, whom he married on February 5, 1951 in Corinth, Mississippi; two daughters, Rebecca Wagar Cunningham and husband Randy of Murray, Kentucky, and Jane Wagar Chapman and husband Al of Murray, Kentucky; one son in law, David Hill and wife Debbie of North Port, Florida; six grandchildren, Mickey Hill, of San Jose, California; Ryan Cunningham and wife Sarah of Murray, Kentucky; Stephanie Pierce and husband Rob of North Port, Florida; Kevin Cunningham and wife Emily of Shelbyville, Kentucky; Jason Chapman and wife Cara of Noblesville, Indiana; Jonathan Chapman and wife JoLynne of Owensboro, Kentucky; also surviving are eleven great-grandchildren, Asher, Eden and Naomi Cunningham of Murray, Kentucky, Maddie and Jack Cunningham of Shelbyville, Kentucky, Waylon, Eli and Thea Pierce of North Port, Florida, William and Trace Chapman of Noblesville, Indiana, and Levi Chapman of Owensboro, Kentucky; also surviving are several nieces.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 4, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Murray. Dr. Greg Earwood, Rev. Boyd Smith and John Dale will officiate, and vocalist will be Mike Rose and Keith Inman. Burial will follow in the Murray City Cemetery. Visitation will be held prior to the funeral service on Monday, February 4, 2019 at the First Baptist Church from 10:00 a.m. – until the funeral hour.
