Rusty Burkeen

            Mr. Rusty Wayne Burkeen, age 45, of Murray, Kentucky, passed away on Wednesday, January 3, 2024, at the Murray – Calloway County Hospital.

            Mr. Burkeen was born on September 7, 1978, in Marshall County, Kentucky. He was the owner and operator of Rusty Burkeen Excavating & Septic and was a member of the Coles Campground Community Church. Rusty was a one-of-a-kind man and made an impression on every person he met, never knowing a stranger, and always willing to give the shirt off his back to anyone. Rusty was a God-fearing man who thought the world of his family and friends. He adored his four-legged best friend, Lil Bitty, all of his kids, and grandboys. He thought so highly of and constantly bragged on his wife, Shawna. Rusty loved fishing, racing, boating, and spending his time with his loved ones.

            He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Rufe and Mary Burkeen.

            Survivors include his wife Shawna Lanee of Murray, Kentucky; his mother, Laura Mitchuson of Benton, Kentucky; two sons, Rustin Burkeen and wife Kassidy of Murray, Kentucky, Reece Burkeen and wife Brianna of Dexter, Kentucky; stepdaughter, Madelynn Efinger of Dexter, Kentucky; stepson, Joshua Efinger and wife Haley of Dexter, Kentucky; one grandson, Rowen Burkeen of Dexter, Kentucky; one step-grandson, Lucas Efinger of Dexter, Kentucky; as well as several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

            A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Sunday, January 7, 2024, at the J.H. Churchill Funeral Home & Cremation Services with Bro. Ronnie Burkeen officiating. Burial will follow on the Burkeen Family Farm. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m., Saturday, January 6, 2024, at the J.H. Churchill Funeral Home & Cremation Services.
