Mr. Sam Elkins, 76 of Murray, Kentucky died Thursday, October 11, 2012 in Wilmington, Ohio.
Mr. Elkins was born in Dearborn, Michigan on January 7, 1936 to the late Hardin Elkins and Edwina Thompson Elkins. Mr. Elkins worked as a Detective Sergeant in Inkster, Michigan; following his time in Inkster, Michigan he later became the Chief of Police in Northville, Michigan; from 1974 until 1994 he was employed at the USEC Plant in West Paducah, Kentucky as the Chief of Security and later there became a Classification Officer. Mr. Elkins was with the United States Army Reserves, working in the Intelligence Office for twenty years and retiring as a Warrant Officer 3 (WO3). Mr. Elkins was a member of the Pentecostal Church of God.
Mr. Elkins is survived by his wife Millie Elkins of Murray, to whom he married in December 1974 in Murray, Kentucky; two daughters, Sheryl Miller and husband Chris of Clarksville, Tennessee and Lori Vogel and husband John of Charlton, New York; two sons, Don E. Elkins and wife Kathy of Springville, Tennessee and John Lee and wife Angela of Hazel, Kentucky; two sisters, Helen Levergood and husband John of Monroe, Michigan and Linda Fody and husband John of Plymouth, Michigan; one brother, Danny Elkins and wife Kathleen of New Concord, Kentucky; as well as nine grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 15, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at the J.H. Churchill Funeral Home with John Dale and Ray Whitlow officiating. Burial will follow in the Murray City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 14, 2012 at the funeral home.
