Samuel Rice

Mr. Samuel James Rice, age 86, of Murray, Kentucky, formerly of Viera, Florida died Wednesday, October 28, 2015 at Hickory Woods assisted living.

Mr. Rice was born on February 3, 1929 in the Bronx, New York to the late Samuel Rice and Katherine Faye Rice. Mr. Rice was an area distributor with Pepperidge Farm and retired after 32 years of service. He was an Air Corp veteran of WWII and was of the Catholic faith.

In addition to his parents Mr. Rice was preceded in death by two sisters, Irene Wilson and June Garrett; and one son, Thomas Rice.


Survivors include his spouse, Arlene Rice, to whom he married on August 1, 1953 in the Bronx, New York; two daughters, Kathleen Stroud and husband Robin of Murray, Kentucky and Maureen Burke and husband James of Port Jefferson, New York; one son, James Thomas Rice and wife Cindy of Melbourne Beach, Florida; eight grandchildren, Jonathan Iglesias, Thomas Rice, Ashley Iglesias, James Rice, Jaquie Rice-Roni, Kyleen Burke, Brannon Burke and James Burke; as well as three great grandchildren, Zayne Iglesias, Lily Thurmond, and Lyla Thurmond.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 31, 2015 at 3:00 p.m. at the J.H. Churchill Funeral Home with Father Brandon Williams officiating. A visitation will be held prior to the memorial service on Saturday, October 31, 2015 from 2:00 p.m. until service hour (3:00 p.m.) at the J.H. Churchill Funeral Home.
