Mrs. Shirley Christeen Mayberry Nain, age 86, of Murray, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, November 29, 2016 at Benchmark Healthcare of Puryear, Tennessee. Mrs. Nain lived in southern Illinois until 1972 and then moved to Ballard County, Kentucky where she resided until returning to Illinois in 2008. Mrs. Nain spent the last three years of her life in Murray, Kentucky where she enjoyed spending time with her local family members.
Mrs. Nain was born in Pulaski, Illinois on June 11, 1930 to the late Dewey Mayberry and Bessie (Poole) Mayberry. Mrs. Nain was born on her mother's birthday and loved sharing that information with others. She worked and retired from Ballard County High School as on-site custodian and kitchen staff. Her earlier years were spent operating restaurants. She was of the Christian faith and found comfort and peace in her relationship with Christ. Mrs. Nain loved to cook for family and friends. Holiday and birthday gatherings were always a pure delight for her and she loved seasonal decor inside and out.
In addition to her parents Mrs. Nain was preceded in death by her husband William "Fritz" Nain; infant daughter, Loretta Christeen Castle; one grandson, Tony Castle; two sisters, Essie and Virginia, three brothers, Dewey, Curtis and Troy.
Survivors left to mourn her include two daughters, Sue Hein Richtelli and husband Frank of Cape Coral, Florida; Joy Fox and husband Rick of Murray, Kentucky; two sons, Dave Castle, Jr. and wife Anne of Tamaqua, Pennsylvania and George Dean Castle and wife Dee of Villa Ridge, Illinois; one sister, Thula (Rick) Kerr of Cairo, Illinois; one brother, Powell Mayberry and wife Sandy of Warrensburg, Illinois; six grandchildren, Erica Burda and husband Jack of Cape Coral, Florida; Christeen Loew and husband Dave of Temple, Georgia; Jonathan Fox and wife Jennifer of Fort Belvoir, Virginia; Jessica Flinn and husband Michael of Murray, Kentucky; Max Castle of Anna, Illinois and Julie Castle of Abingdon, Maryland; also surviving are several great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild and many nieces and nephews; as well as leaving behind her dear friends and former neighbors, John and Elaine Wood of Barlow, Kentucky.
A graveside service will be held on December 29, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at the Rose Hill Cemetery in Pulaski, Illinois. Jones Funeral Home in Villa Ridge, Illinois is in charge of out of town arrangements.
