Dr. Thomas Bruce Auer, age 82, of Murray, Kentucky, died on Tuesday, May 31, 2016 in Nashville, Tennessee.
He was born in Baltimore, Maryland on October 24, 1933 to the late John and Helen Kilbourne Auer. In addition to his parents, Dr. Auer was also preceded in death by brothers Donald and William Auer, wife Jo Anne Gray Auer and grandson Seth Porter. He and his wife were long-standing members of the Murray community and he remained a resident until 2015 when he relocated first to Cincinnati and then to Nashville to be with family.
Dr. Auer had a 25-year tenure at Murray State University, retiring as Dean of the College of Science, Engineering and Technology. He was an active and dedicated member of the Murray Rotary Club and accredited by the National Society of Professional Engineers. He was an Alumni of Oklahoma State University and the University of Michigan and a retired Captain in the U. S. Air Force.
He is survived by one son, Philip Auer (wife Susan) of Cincinnati, Ohio; two daughters, Amy Erwin (husband Stephen) of Colorado Springs, Colorado and Audrey Auer of Nashville, Tennessee; two sisters-in-law, Mrs. William Auer of Harpers Ferry, West Virginia and Mrs. Donald Auer of Baltimore, Maryland; brother-in-law James Gray (wife Joanne) of St. Matthews, South Carolina; four grandchildren, Olivia Porter, Grace Walker (husband Derek), Stephanie Erwin of Nashville and Kaitlin Chesser (husband Daniel) of Bardstown, Kentucky and two great grandchildren, Anais and Cullen Walker of Nashville.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, June 18, 2016 from 11:00 A.M. – 2:00 P.M. at the J.H. Churchill Funeral Home with a committal service to follow at Saint John's Episcopal Church.
