Mr. Thomas Joseph Ewing, 63 of Murray, KY, died Monday, February 14, 2011 at Vanderbilt Hospital in Nashville, TN.
Born in Buffalo, NY, on April 9, 1947, he spent his childhood in Lackawanna. He joined the Navy in 1966 and was stationed in Norfolk, VA, spent a year serving in Vietnam, and worked aboard the USS Nitro until his discharge in 1970. His job at Fisher Price in Buffalo was transferred to the Murray plant in 1975. After leaving Fisher Price he was employed at Hilliard Lyons as a financial adviser until he suffered a stroke that ended his professional career.

As a dedicated supporter of the community he played an integral part in the early phase of the Murray Main St. program serving as its first president in 1998, and again in 2004, and remained an active participant. Another passion of his was supporting the efforts of the Humane Society particularly concerning reducing pet overpopulation. The Lion's Club also benefited from his leadership where he held the position of treasurer for two years starting in 2001. Focusing on various projects from these three organizations gave him a true sense of purpose and earned him the Ambassador Award from the Chamber of Commerce in 1998. Tom exemplified what it meant to be a volunteer devoted to the improvement of his town on many levels. Mr. Ewing was a member of the St. Leo Catholic Church in Murray.
He is survived by his wife, Sandy Ewing of Murray, KY; step daughter, Racheal Goulet and husband Jason of Murray, KY; step son, Seth Grogan of Murray, KY; brothers, Jimmy Ewing; four, half sisters, Sharon Ann Ewing – Fortino, Patricia Ellen Ewing – Bareno, Rose (Tootsie) Mary Ewing – Karben, and Honor Jean Ewing – Garcia; niece Michelle Ewing and nephew David Ewing; also two great nephews survive.
Mr. Ewing was preceded in death by his parents, James and Mary Eszek Ewing and one brother, Jack Ewing.
