Thomas David McNeely

McNeely, Thomas David – Tom McNeely went to be with the Lord after a struggle with cancer on February 27, 2017, at age 77.
He is survived by his sisters Carolyn Burt, Judy Darnell (Danny), and Pattie Fitts (Mac). He is also survived by his three children: son Thomas David McNeely, Jr., of Olive Branch, MS, David's wife Kristi, and grandchildren Campbell and Cooper; his daughter Lisa McNeely Harrison of Nashville, TN, her husband John G. Harrison, and grandchildren Cole, David, and Anna Clarke Harrison; and son Tyler Yates McNeely of New Concord, KY. He is preceded in death by his father Crawford McNeely and his mother Reubena Williams McNeely.
Born May 1, 1939, in Indianapolis, IN, Tom was raised in a loving home surrounded by family and friends in Lynn Grove, KY. After high school, he attended Murray State University and later Trinity University in San Antonio, where his basketball career included an appearance in the NCAA basketball tournament. Over the years, and following service in the Texas National Guard, he lived in Dallas, San Antonio, Atlanta, Nashville, Lexington (TN), and Murray, KY, and he enjoyed successful work as a high school teacher, basketball coach, salesman, and finally as a financial advisor for Edward Jones in Lexington and Huntington, TN.
Tom was blessed with a wide circle of friends with whom he enjoyed duck hunting, golf, fishing, tall tales, and the occasional cigar and fine wine. He also enjoyed travel, with trips to South Africa, Ireland, Hawaii, and any other place where he could join his golf and basketball buddies for a long weekend.
At the time of his death, Tom attended Hardin Baptist Church, where memorials may be made in lieu of flowers or other gifts. Tom's friends and family will gather for a memorial service at The J.H. Churchill Funeral Home, 201 S. 3rd St., Murray, KY, 42071, on Saturday, March 4, 2017, at 2:00 p.m., with visitation to precede the service from noon to 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home on Saturday, March 4, 2017.
