Van Waugh, 73 passed away peacefully on December 2, 2016. Van was born on April 30, 1943 in Bluefield, West Virginia. Van's father, Colonel Buddy Waugh was career military and this gave Van and his brother, Goree, an opportunity to live in different parts of the world as they were growing up. Van graduated from Frankfurt American High School in 1961 in Frankfurt, Germany. After Van graduated from high school in Germany, his family moved back to the USA. Van made the decision to attend college in a small town in Western Kentucky, called Murray State College. It was there where he met his first wife, Linda Outland and was married in 1963. Van and Linda had two children, Bret who was born in 1966 and Leslie who was born in 1974. During Van's time in Murray, he was active in the local Jaycee's chapter and the Calloway County Fair Board. He later moved to Nashville and worked for Opryland USA.
Van moved to Texas in 1992 where he and his brother opened a retail sign store in Arlington, TX. Van and Carol Stodghill were long time companions before they married in a beautiful outdoor ceremony in Western Kentucky in 2014. Van and Carol traveled frequently to visit family in Kentucky, Indiana and California. They also had a memorable time and spoke about it frequently when they vacationed in Australia. Van lost his beautiful wife, Carol on November 6, 2016 when she went home to be with our Lord.
Van enjoyed scuba diving, traveling, collecting gadgets and spending time with his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Buddy and Louise Waugh, his first wife, Linda Waugh Walker (Outland) and his wife, Carol Stodghill who passed away on November 6, 2016.
Van is survived by his son, Bret Waugh, Marina Del Rey, CA and his daughter Leslie Wessel (Josh), Wingo, KY and two grandchildren, Sarah and Nathaniel Wessel. Stepdaughter Niki Sikinger (Roland), Houston, TX, grandchildren, Jake Sikinger (Claire), Kelley Rohlmeier (Jamie) also of Houston. Brother, Goree Waugh (Barbara), Sarasota, Florida, Nephew Jason Waugh (Jenny), Rockford, Michigan and their children Gillian and Molly as well as his niece Pam Mayfield (Jason) Cypress, Texas and their children, Chase, Lauren and Katelyn.
Van's funeral service will be combined with the memorial service of his wife, Carol who passed away on November 6, 2016 in Fort Worth, Texas. The service will be held at Mt. Olivet Funeral Home, Fort Worth, TX. Visitation will be Saturday, December 17, 2016 at 12:30 p.m. with the combined service beginning at 1:30 p.m.
Van will be buried in Murray, Kentucky with visitation on Monday, December 19 from 5 p.m.-7 p.m. at JH Churchill Funeral Home in Murray. The graveside service will be held on Tuesday, December 20 at 11am at Murray City Cemetery.
Memorial contributions, in lieu of flowers can be made in his memory to the American Cancer Society or the American Lung Association.
