Velma Jean Pollock Mills, 85, was born Nov. 7, 1925. She went to be with her heavenly Father July 25, 2011. Preceding her in death were her parents, Rev. Kirby and Ruth Philpot Pollock, husband, Edwin A. Mills, sister, Edna Mae Pollock Tichenor, and two brothers, Calvin Pollock and Samuel Pollock.
She is survived by her children: Edwina (Larry) Rowell, Campbellsville, KY, Ruth Ann (Glenn) Mills-Moore, New Castle, KY, Eleanor (Chris) Spry, Murray, KY and Steven Thomas (Dolly) Mills, Louisville, KY; six grandchildren: Parker Edwin (Kelley) Rowell, Steven Bennett (Ashley Ireland) Moore, Glenn David Moore, Jean-Anne Moore, Steven Austin Mills and Peyton Logan Mills; one great-grandchild: Edwin Deklan Moore; four sisters-in-law, many nieces and nephews and special friends Sylvia Rickman and Sabrina Leslie.
She grew up in Brandenburg, KY. She worked at Olin Chemicals, Meade County Courthouse and KY Social Services. During WWII she worked at Ft. Knox for the Red Cross and as a fourth grade teacher.
She enjoyed her family, friends, music and traveling. She was a member of Ekron Baptist Church and the Ambrose Chapter of the DAR. Expressions of sympathy may be made to any Christian mission organization, KY Special Olympics or MCCH Hospice House.
Visitation is Wednesday, July 27, at the J.H. Churchill Funeral Home, in Murray, KY 5-9 PM CT, Thursday, July 28, 5-9 PM ET at the Ekron Baptist Church, Ekron, KY, as well as on Friday, July 29, from 8:00 AM ET until funeral hour. Funeral will be held at 11 AM ET at the Ekron Baptist Church with burial to follow in the Ekron Baptist Church Cemetery.
