Miss Venona Lillian Rogers, 98, of Murray, Kentucky died Tuesday, April 22, 2014 at the Murray Calloway County Hospital.
Born November 7, 1915 in Cunningham, Kentucky to the late Noah and Mary McAllister Rogers. Miss Rogers had a passion for teaching, she began her career in Carlisle County during WWII where she not only taught but also coached the boys' basketball team because the men were all at war. After leaving Carlisle County she taught at the Murray Training School until it closed and then at Murray State University. She retired in 1977 after 30+ years of teaching. She was a member of the Waters Street, 7th & Poplar, Glendale Road Church of Christ. Miss Rogers for more than 50 years taught hundreds of children in Bible School classes, where she was known by all as Miss Noni.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by six younger brothers, and sisters, Vivian Rogers, Dennis Rogers, Robert Harvey Rogers, Lebert Rogers, Eldon Rogers, and Wilma Rogers Garrett.
Survivors include Niece Dinah Mattson, great Niece Jenny Mattson along with many other nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and great great nieces and nephews, also a very close friend Shirley Coles.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m., Friday, April 25, 2014 at the J.H. Churchill Funeral Home, John Dale and Jason Hart will officiate, and burial will follow in the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery Melber, Kentucky. Visitation will be held Thursday, April 24, 2014, from 5-8 p.m. at the J.H. Churchill Funeral Home.
