Mrs. Violet Newsome, 87 of Kirksey, Kentucky died Thursday, June 21, 2012 at her home, surrounded by her family.
She was born on May 8, 1925 in Golo, Ky., but spent the major part of her life in Michigan, Missouri, and North Carolina where her husband was a pastor in the Free Will Baptist denomination. She was a beloved Sunday school teacher for over 40 years, a talented artist and the founder of many youth groups and children's church programs through the years. After retirement in 1983 they moved back to Kirksey.
She is survived by her husband of 69 years, Rev. William (Bill) Newsome, of Kirksey, two daughters, Sharon M. Collings and husband Donald of Middletown, Md., Pamela Newsome of Kirksey, four grandchildren, Dr. Donald Collings II and wife Mary of Beaver, Pa., Stacy Collings of Wilmington, De., Stephanie Best and husband Joe of Fredrick, Md., and Robert Collings and wife Betsy of Fredrick, Md., also eight great grandchildren, Jordan, Hannah, Caleb, Peter, Elizabeth, Samuel, and Havilan Collings all of Beaver, Pa., and Caroline Collings of Fredrick, Md.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, June 24, 2012, at 2:30 p.m. at the J.H. Churchill Funeral Home, Dr. Kenneth Riggs will officiate, and burial will follow in the Mt. Zion Cemetery. Visitation will be held Saturday, June 23, 2012 from 5-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
