Mr. Walter Worth Irwin, 87, of Murray, Kentucky formerly of Memphis, Tennessee died Saturday, January 26, 2013 at his home in Murray.
Mr. Irwin was born June 14, 1925 in Memphis, Tennessee to the late Bethel Terry Irwin and Lula Samantha Eaton Rutland Irwin. Mr. Irwin graduated from Southside High School and received degrees from Freed – Hardeman College and David Lipscomb College with graduate studies at Harding University.
Mr. Irwin preached for several churches in the Memphis area including Coro Lake church of Christ and Longview Heights church of Christ. Mr. Irwin also preached for churches in Nashville and Culleoka, Tennessee, as well as churches in Georgia and Mississippi. He also served as an elder for the Holmes Road church of Christ and the Germantown church of Christ. For many years he helped churches finance church buildings in the southeast and mid-western states.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Irwin was preceded in death by five brothers and three sisters, Milton Rutland, Gene Rutland, Dorothy Boyce, Inez Travis, Peggy Grandi, John Irwin, Sidney Irwin, and Bethel Irwin.
Mr. Irwin is survived by his wife of sixty-seven years, Doris Marie Dial Irwin and three children, Donna Irwin Youngblood and husband Richard from Murray, Travis D. Irwin and wife Debbie of Athens, Tennessee, Paul M. Irwin and wife Kathy of Collierville, Tennessee. Also surviving are five grandchildren, three great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 30, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. at Germantown church of Christ in Germantown, Tennessee with Richard Youngblood officiating assisted by Travis Irwin, Paul Irwin, Brad Irwin and Andrew Youngblood. Visitation will be in Murray, Kentucky at the J.H. Churchill Funeral Home on Monday, January 28, 2013 from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. Visitation also will be held in Germantown, Tennessee at the Germantown church of Christ on Wednesday, January 30, 2013 prior to the funeral service from 9:30 a.m. until funeral hour (10:30 a.m.). Burial will follow in the Forrest Hill Cemetery South in Memphis, Tennessee.
