Dr. Wayne Charles Bell, age 71, of Murray, Kentucky died at his home on Monday, October 13, 2014.
Dr. Bell was born in Hugo, Oklahoma on February, 18, 1943. He was a retired math professor, who taught at Murray State University from 1978 until his retirement in 2008. Dr. Bell was a member, a past president and past treasurer of the Murray Independent School District Foundation For Excellence. He was a national chess coach as well as a national chess tournament director. Along with many of his accomplishments he was the Kentucky State Chess Champion of 1994 and was inducted into the Kentucky Chess Hall of Fame.
Dr. Bell was preceded in death by his father, Otis Martin Bell; and by two brothers, Jack and Kenneth Bell.
Dr. Bell is survived by his wife, Debra Burgess of Murray, Kentucky; his mother, Oletta Burnett of Early, Texas; one son, Zackary Burgess of Murray, Kentucky; and one sister, Linda Sue Allen and husband Nathan of Early, Texas.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, October 17, 2014 at 3:30 p.m. at the J.H. Churchill Funeral Home with Rev. Dr. Renee Meyer officiating. Visitation will be held on Friday, October 17, 2014 from 2:00 p.m. until service hour (3:30 p.m.) at the funeral home.
