Mr. William Cortel Chaney, 83, of Murray, KY, died October 5, 2011 at the VA Medical Center in Nashville, TN.
Mr. Chaney was born in Calloway Co. KY on August 11, 1928 to the late Dillard Euris Chaney and Lela Skinner Chaney. Mr. Chaney retired from the United States Air force after 25 years of service as a Chief Master Sergeant. In this time Mr. Chaney fought in the Korean Conflict, Cuban Missile Crisis and the Vietnam War; and received the Bronze Star. After his retirement with the United States Air Force, Mr. Chaney later retired after 27 years as the Director of Maintenance with the Kentucky State Park Service. Mr. Chaney was a graduate of the Almo High School and was a member of the Elm Grove Baptist Church, as well as a member of the Temple Hill Masonic Lodge.
In addition to his parents Mr. Chaney was preceded in death by one sister, Sammie Pernecia Chaney and by one brother, James Harold Chaney.
Mr. Chaney is survived by his wife, Ida Pearl Inman Chaney of Murray, to whom he married on July 22, 1950 in Corinth, Mississippi; four daughters, Brenda Rambo and husband Jesse Jr. "Buddy" of Reeders, Pennsylvania, JoAnn Gentry a husband James "Mike" of Leonard, Texas, Betty Cobb of Johnson City, Tennessee and Linda Morris and husband Jimmy Dale of Murray; two brothers, Eugene Skinner Chaney and wife Dorothy and Charles Hugh Chaney and wife Sue all of Murray; one sister-in-law, Lena Sue Chaney of Murray; eight grandchildren, Katherine McNutt Dickman, Keri McNutt Kinyon, Brittney Rambo, Cara Hodges, Evan William Gentry, Jeremy Cobb, Heather Cobb and Sara Duncan; as well as seven great grandchildren, Shelby Barnes, Camryn Dickman, Madison Dickman, Carter Kinyon, Bayley Garman, Tucker Rosenbusch and Harper Rosenbusch.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 8, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. at the J.H. Churchill Funeral Home with Rev. Brad Burns officiating. Burial and full military honors will follow at the Elm Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Friday, October 7, 2011 at the funeral home.
