Dr. William (Bill) Holman, age 70, of Murray, KY, passed away April 22, 2012 at Southern Hills Medical Center, Nashville, TN.
Born in Pryor, OK, on March 3, 1942, to Lucian J. and Katherine Flint Holman, Dr. Holman grew up in Carlisle County, KY. He was a graduate of Carlisle County High School (1960), Murray State University(1963) and the University of Louisville School of Medicine(1967).
Immediately after a year's internship at the City of Memphis Hospital, he entered the U.S. Navy where he served as a naval flight surgeon for two and one half years. He was assigned to the U.S. Marine Corps throughout his tour of active duty in Vietnam and Japan. Dr. Holman remained a Navy reservist for 16 years and was recalled to active duty during Desert Storm. He retired with a rank of Captain in May 2003.
Following military service, Dr. Holman returned to Memphis and completed a residency in internal medicine with an emphasis in cardiology. He joined the Cooper Clinic in Fort Smith, AR., in 1974, practicing first as an internist and then as a cardiologist until 1994, when he returned to Murray, KY, to open Holman Heart Clinic. He later joined Primary Care Medical Center in Murray, KY in 2008 and practiced until the end of February of this year. Dr. Holman was certified in both internal medicine and cardiology.
In his leisure time, Bill enjoyed spending time with his family and relaxing on his back porch with his wife Sandy and their dog Daisy. He liked to hunt game and shoot skeet, sharing these interests with his wife, Sandy, and other friends he made throughout his life.
Dr. Holman is survived by his wife, Sandy Bibb Holman and his four daughters: Mary DeLoach (Chris) of Mt. Juliet, TN; Laura Lonjaret (Thierry) of Sherwood, AR; Diane King of Bartlett, TN, and Kathleen Holman of Murray, KY. Also surviving are five grandchildren: Chelsea and Hayes DeLoach, Cecile and Rachel Lonjaret, and Julian Holman; two step-children, Kim Pierce (Jimmy) and Chad Culp of Murray, KY and his only sibling, Lucy Hunt (Philip) Cunningham, KY.
Funeral service will be held Saturday, April 28, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Murray, Ky., Rev. Boyd Smith and John Dale will officiate, and burial will follow with full military honors in the Roselawn Cemetery in Bardwell, Ky. Visitation will be held Friday, April 27, 2012 from 5-8 p.m. at the First Baptist Church, and again on Saturday from 11 a.m. till 1 p.m. at the church.
