William B. "Bill" Miller

Bro. William B. "Bill" Miller, age 96, passed away at the Anna Mae Owen Residential Hospice House on March 19, 2019.
Bro. Miller was preceded in death by his parents, Bernie and Lula Stalls Miller and his wife, Mary Sue Miller. He is survived by three sons, Billy Miller and wife Linda of Bowling Green, Kentucky, Ken Miller and wife Lagenia of Murray, Kentucky, and Mark Miller and wife Betty of Canton, Ohio. Bro. Miller is also survived by six grandchildren: Tammy McCallon and husband Mike, Amy McReynolds and husband Greg, Bro. K. Alan Miller and wife Emily, Angie Wyatt and husband Greg, Nick Miller and wife Heather, Alex Slankard and husband Vance. Ten great-grandchildren also survive: Allie McClain and husband Dustin, Blake and Matt McReynolds, Courtney Thompson, Katie and Brady Miller, Caleb, Nate and Micah Wyatt, and Logan Miller. Two great-great grandchildren: Conlee and Brex McClain. Bro. Miller is also survived by three step grandsons, Scott England and wife Valerie, Kevin England and wife Melissa, Corey England and wife Tanna. Step great-grandchildren include, Chelsea Clark and husband Ben, Hannah, Carson, Carlie and Josie England.
Bro. Miller was born in Golden Pond, Kentucky on October 26, 1922. He attended elementary and high school there and graduated from Trigg County High School. He received a Bachelor of Science and Master of Arts degrees from Murray State University, and he held a Life-Time Administrative Certificate from the Kentucky Department of Education. He has been involved in education since 1945, when he became a teacher at Golden Pond Elementary School. From there he came to Calloway County to teach and coach basketball at Kirksey High School. He later moved to Almo High School as teacher, coach and principal. In 1960 he became the first principal of the newly consolidated Calloway County High School. From there he became assistant superintendent and then superintendent of the Calloway County School System. While he was superintendent the three elementary schools, North, East and Southwest were built. After his retirement as superintendent, he came back to serve as assistant superintendent for one year and to teach at North Calloway for one year.
Miller has been active in many professional and civic organizations, including: The West Kentucky Administrators Club, West Kentucky Secondary Principals Association, Calloway County Education Association, KEA, NEA, Murray State Alumni Association, Kappa Delta Pi, Temple Hill Masonic Lodge, Murray Woodmen of the World Camp, Kentucky Association of School Administrators and order of the Kentucky Colonels.
In May 1992, after the call to be Pastor of the Sugar Creek Baptist Church, Bro. Miller was ordained into the Gospel Ministry. He served Sugar Creek Baptist Church, the Flint Baptist Church, and was interim Pastor of the New Mt. Carmel Baptist Church as well as supplying for other churches in Western Kentucky. Bro. Miller was an active member of the Flint Baptist Church where he served as Deacon, Sunday School Teacher and Song Leader.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Sunday, March 24, 2019 at the J.H. Churchill Funeral Home with Bro. K. Alan Miller and Bro. Glenn Cope officiating. Burial will follow in the Murray City Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m., on Saturday, March 23, 2019 at the J.H. Churchill Funeral.
