Mr. William "Don" Nelson, age 71, of Murray, Kentucky died on Thursday, October 4, 2018 at the Murray Calloway County Hospital.
William Don Nelson was born in Murray on 04-23-47 to William Andrew and Mavis Ailene Nelson. He was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War, having been awarded several medals during his service. He was a retired truck driver from Trimac out of Calvert City. He worked hard his entire life, and his later years were spent grilling and enjoying the pool in the backyard – or the "beach" as it came to be known. He enjoyed maintaining that pool as much as everyone else enjoyed swimming and playing in it, everything had to be just right. The Fourth of July and Christmas were his holidays and they have been at man and meno's since we can remember, they definitely won't be the same.
Don is preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Jerry Nelson, and a wife, Annette Thurman Nelson.
He leaves behind his wife of 29 years, Ruth Nelson; a sister-in-law, Joyce Nelson and her daughter Chrsitie (Arkansas); daughters Shannon Nelson Parker (Benjie) and Tricia Nelson; sons, Chris Drew (Ruthann), Randall Hill (Gina), Rodney Hill (Sherina); grandchildren Paige, Emily, Maggie and Ellen Drew, Chelsea Henson (Jordan), Ragan Nelson, Hunter and Shane Lowe, Preston Hill, Kelsey Mason (Evan) and Eli Hill; great-grandchildren Rowan Henson and Scott, Ellie and Easton Mason.
Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m., Sunday, October 7, 2018 at the J.H. Churchill Funeral Home. Rev. Kevin Jones will officiate, and burial will follow in the Palestine United Methodist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 6, 2018 at the J.H. Churchill Funeral Home.
