William Jerry Shelton, age 84, passed away at the Anna Mae Owen Residential Hospice House on Saturday, June 28, 2025.

Jerry was born on January 16, 1941, in Aberdeen, Mississippi to William Dewey Shelton and Asilee Lindsay.

He and his identical twin, Terry, were recruited to play football at Murray State where he attended on a football scholarship. In august of 1962 he married his high school sweetheart, Peggy Jean Pruett and they lived in Murray until his graduation when he then served as a Captain in the U.S. Army at Fort Bragg. On his discharge they returned to Murray with their children, Bill and Tina, to begin their teaching careers at the Murray Independent School District.

Jerry spent over two decades teaching Biology at Murray High School including taking several groups of students on memorable trips to Hawaii. He also coached football, basketball, tennis and track.

At his retirement from MISD he and Peggy moved to Lake Barkley so he could spend his days doing the things he loved with his twin, Terry, finding and fishing blue gill beds and trash talking each other on the golf course.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Tina Shelton; his parents; as well as four sisters, Imogene Shelton, Willowdean Shelton, Maxine Reedy, and Patty Sue Hughes.

At the family’s request there will be no public service or visitation held at this time.
