Mr. William Franklin Wells, 93, of Murray, Kentucky died Thursday, February 02, 2012 at his home. Mr. Wells was born in Calloway County, Kentucky on December 5, 1918 to the late Billie Wells and Gertie Lee Wells. Mr. Wells retired with General Motors and was an Army veteran of WWII. Mr. Wells was the oldest member of the Poplar Springs Baptist Church and was a member of the Murray Lodge #105, Scottish Rite in Michigan, Rizpah Shrine in Madisonville, Kentucky and the American Legion Post #73 in Murray, Kentucky. Mr. Wells was also honored by being named a Kentucky Colonel.
In addition to his parents Mr. Wells was preceded in death by one sister, Bertha Tidwell.
Mr. Wells is survived by two daughters, Frances "Fran" Garrison and Mary Rose Bynum and husband Harold; one son, Franklin Hicks Wells and wife Lois; one sister, Dorthy Crouse; one brother, Martin Wells and wife Faye all of Murray; eight grandchildren, Nicky Wells, Dixie Wells, Sandra Chavis, Mike Garrison and wife Tamra, Mark Garrison and wife Lucy, Matt Garrison and wife Cristina, Kim Evans and husband Kyle and Chris Bynum and wife Missy; as well as thirteen great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, February 5, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at the J.H. Churchill Funeral Home with Rev. Randy Lowe, Bro. Bill Miller and Bro. Rob Ison officiating. Burial to follow in the Ivy Cemetery. Masonic rites will be held on Saturday, February 4, 2012 at 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Visitation will be held from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 4, 2012 also at the funeral home.
