Wilma Jo Lovins Gannon, age 84, of Murray, KY, passed away on Wednesday, October 23, 2013 at Spring Creek Health Care and Rehabilitation Center in Murray. She was born in Calloway County to the late Willie Otis and Esther Mae (Blalock) Lovins on December 4, 1928.
In addition to her parents Mrs. Gannon was preceded in death by her husband Bernard "Bern" A. Gannon, Jr., to whom she married on October 3, 1960 in Stockton, NJ; one son, Bernard "Andy" Gannon, III and by one brother, Gene Lovins.
Wilma graduated from Murray High School, Murray Teachers' College and obtained her Master's Degree from Chapel Hill, NC. Wilma and Bern raised their family in Colorado Springs, CO where they were both High School Educators. Wilma taught English at Mitchell High School in Colorado Springs, CO for 20 years. She was active in theater through her school years and while living in Colorado. After retirement Wilma and Bern resided in Calloway County until their deaths. Wilma was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and was a member of the St. John's Episcopal Church.
Survivors include her daughter Laura Young of Jacksonville, FL; three sons, Brian (Paula) Gannon of Louisville, KY, Kevin Gannon of Murray, KY and Mark (Christy) Gannon of Charlotte, NC; seven grandchildren, Steven Young of Jacksonville, FL, Katelyn Young of Jacksonville, FL, Charles Gannon of Murray, KY, Elizabeth Gannon of Louisville, KY, Grace Gannon of Murray, KY, Jack Gannon of Murray, KY and Shiah Young of Jacksonville, FL. Other survivors include one daughter-in-law, Amy Gannon of Murray, KY; and a sister-in-law, Julie Lovins of Evansville, IN.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 27, 2013 at the J.H. Churchill Funeral Home with Rev. Rose Bogal – Allbritten officiating. Burial will follow in the New Concord Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from noon until service hour (2:00p.m) on Sunday, October 27, 2013.
